16 Major Causes of Gut Permeability and Disease

With a global epidemic of digestive disorders and autoimmune diseases that affect especially women, roughly eighty percent, it is wise to reflect upon what contributes to such worldwide progression, especially common in industrialized countries, and consciously decide what we can work on in order to reduce the toxic load on our bodies.

Unless it’s viral or genetic, the list below play a vital role in disease formation and progression.

Even if you are genetically predisposed, the genes don’t necessarily need to express themselves in a good environment with good for you thought pattern, lifestyle and bio-individual diet.

As you can see, there are two categories of disease contributors: Physical and Emotional.

Physical are fairly easy to control, remove and replace. By choosing non GMO, organic produce and products you reduce your exposure to pesticides, herbicides, growth hormones and animal antibiotics. Uff, crossed off four out of sixteen! That’s progress.

How about antibiotics and medication prescribed for you, the human?

If you eat a high fiber, nutrient dense diet composed roughly of a pound of raw fruits and veggies, a pound of cooked veggies, ½ cup of beans and quarter cup of nuts and seeds daily, add to it good and clean source of protein, adequate amount of water and movement and remove foods you are sensitive to, your chances of getting sick and therefore needing medication diminish dramatically. Cross another two of the list. Let’s see the ten that’s left.

What can you do about household cleaners, cosmetics, and artificial fragrances that disrupt your hormonal activity, clog your liver, which is your main filtration organ that in a highly industrialized body works 24/7 and contribute to poor lymphatic drainage causing toxin entrapment? If you cannot expel toxins from your body, what do you think happens?

You get sick, really sick and if the liver fails, you fail. Switching to nontoxic products is really easy nowadays and can be a luxurious experience. Imagine an evening by a soy or beeswax candle aromatic essential oils diffused in the air around the house cleaned with plant based, harmless products. You pour yourself a glass of cucumber water and proceed to the bathroom where on a shiny tray await organic, phalate and paraben free cosmetics and cleansers, scrubs and brushes designed to improve your lymphatic flow. Doable? Then cross off another three of the list.

What can you do about heated plastic?

Make an effort to switch to glass or metal. Don’t heat your foods or beverages in plastic (ditch your microwaves and use a pan to warm-up your food). Choose BPA containers, but be aware that BPA is only part of the problem. There are other chemicals involved that act as estrogen mimicker and disrupt your hormones. I know, we all like convenience and in many cases we cannot avoid the plastic exposure, but we can certainly reduce it.

Now, pollutants are much harder to control and so are flame retardants. If you live in a big city you inhale fumes. If you live in agricultural areas, you breathe in pesticides. It’s easier to choose a cotton pajama than find organic furniture or afford an organic mattress. More reason for you to switch up to natural products that you can control and are easy to implement and will help you reduce the toxic overload.

And finally, let’s talk about the thoughts, the resentment, the stored anger, life dissatisfaction, lack of purpose, lack of love, the main disease contributors that create toxic molecules of emotion harming our bodies as much as air pollutants, GMO’s, chemicals in our food and cosmetics. You cannot go to the store and buy new thoughts. You cannot erase your memory and create new one, happy, optimistic and loving. But you can make a decision that you are not your thoughts. That you are good enough. That you are better off forgiving and letting go so that you can live a healthy and fulfilled life. You can start practicing mindfulness and surround yourself with people who will help you and uplift you.

The way you eat an elephant is one bite at the time. Take the first step towards prevention or healing and other will only get easier.
